Canon, the world's leader in digital imaging, is the first company in 25 years to meet the standard of excellence required to receive the Camera Group's prestigious Chairman's Award for Industry Excellence and Awareness.
The accolade was presented to Canon in recognition of the role it plays in actively inspiring photographers, and industry alike, to become more passionate about photography.
More than 250 camera suppliers and retailers from across Australia gathered at the exclusive Opera Marquee at the Sydney Opera House, for the Camera House Gala Dinner award ceremony last Saturday, 30 November, 2010.
Receiving the award, Director Canon Consumer Imaging, Jason McLean, said they were honoured to be acknowledged by the industry.
"We are extremely thrilled to receive this award. The fact that we have been recognised by the industry for connecting with, and inspiring Australian photographers is extremely rewarding. The ethos of inspiration and innovation sits at the heart of everything we do as a brand," he said.
"We have worked hard to strengthen our relationships with our partners over the last 18 months and have seen significant shift in the way that we work collaboratively with them. Their success is linked so closely to our success," said Jason.
Commenting on the significance of Canon's award win, Chairman for the Camera Group Mark Alderson said, "This is the first time the whole board has unanimously agreed on a worthy recipient of this category," he said
"Canon contribution to the photography industry as a whole goes above and beyond shifting boxes from shelves," he said.
